The “Tóta tánon Ohkwá:ri” production team participated in the First International Conference on Revitalization of Indigenous and Minoritized Languages, taking place in Barcelona and Vic this past April 2017. In a panel discussion they shared their theory, techniques and practical aspects of creating a children’s show that would help to revitalize language and culture.

The aim of the conference is to bring together scholars, professionals and activists who are working to reverse the process of linguistic homogenization.

They learned about the “ecological restoration” aspect of language revitalizatinon, building sustainable community led programs, keeping languages up to date digitally, policies that protect languages and how academic research can affect languages in many ways.

The conference was three days long. It was a great experience to contribute to this event and inspired the team in many ways.
